"Happy Learning.
Good Foundation.
Be the master of your learning."
Dr Tracy Wang is a highly experienced violinist, pianist, and music educator, offering personalised violin and piano lessons in Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. With over 20 years of international teaching and performance experience across Taiwan, New Zealand, and the United States, she specialises in guiding students through both Suzuki-based learning and individually tailored methods.

 Educational Background & Musical Foundations

Dr Wang began her music journey at the age of four in Taipei, Taiwan, where she studied both violin and piano. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from the University of Waikato (NZ), she fully embraced her passion for music and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Auckland under the mentorship of Professor Dimitri Atannosov.
During this time, she was an active orchestral performer with the Waikato Symphony Orchestra (WSO) and the New Zealand Youth Symphony Orchestra (NZYSO), performing in concert halls across the country. She also began her early teaching career, providing violin instruction in New Zealand public schools.

Advanced Studies & Teaching in the United States

In 2008, Dr Wang relocated to the United States to pursue graduate studies at the University of North Texas, studying under Professor Julia Bushkova — a renowned violin pedagogue known for her deep commitment to violin education and teaching excellence.

Dr Wang earned both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degrees in Violin Performance, and was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honour society. In 2008, she was recognised as a Master Teacher through the UNT College of Education.

Her extensive teaching experience in the US includes working within major public school districts such as Plano ISD, Frisco ISD, and Denton ISD, along with maintaining a thriving private violin and piano studio. She has taught students of all ages and skill levels, from absolute beginners to competition-level performers.

Returning to New Zealand – Teaching & Performing

Dr Wang holds full certification from the North America Suzuki Music Association for Violin Books 1–10, a rare distinction that reflects her long-term commitment to Suzuki pedagogy and child-centred learning.

In addition to Suzuki-based instruction, her teaching also draws from traditional European violin training and integrates Kodály-inspired singing techniques to enhance pitch accuracy, internal hearing, and musicality.

Her approach is flexible and personalised — blending proven pedagogical systems with creative strategies that meet students where they are, whether they’re beginning their first scales or preparing for advanced repertoire and exams.
